Q - Hey Pastor Mike, what can I expect when I come to an Encounter service? A - When we get started at 6 PM, here's what usually happens . . . Encounter is an informal church service. We expect people to come however they want to come, wearing whatever they're comfortable wearing. If it helps, I usually wear jeans and a Hawaiian shirt (OK, OK, but it is a nice Hawaiian shirt). We meet each other and talk and laugh about stuff, then it's time for Encounter to start. Someone in the service (could be a leader or someone who has asked to do it) prays and invites God to come into our midst and asks God to guide and bless the service. Then the lights are turned down and the band starts. We have a great worship band, and that's good because worship is a BIG deal to us at Encounter. The whole reason we're here is to give God the worship He deserves and to enjoy spending time in His presence with others who want to do the same thing. What an experience! After a time of worship and praise, I usually give a short talk about what God's been doing lately. It's not too long, really practicle and pretty funny (at least that's what I've heard). Then we close the service with some more music, a nice end to a wonderful time, and authentic encounter with the living God through His Son and His Spirit. The goal of Encounter is to experience God with others in a way that can be felt, tasted, smelled and seen, as well as heard. You'll enjoy it, and it might even change your life. I enjoy it and look forward to Sunday nights each week. I'd love to meet you, look for me at Encounter.
